Plans, organizes, supervises, coordinates and controls the activities of the plant operations and maintenance functions which are necessary in maintaining the physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and utility systems and grounds of the hospital in an operative and safe working condition. Assures competency of personnel. Formulates and maintains the departmental budget. Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all JCAHO, state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols. Bachelor Degree in Facilities Management or related field. Hospital facilities management is preferred.

Stamford Hospital, a prominent 305-bed Fairfield County, Connecticut teaching hospital, seeks experienced Director of Facilities with track record in acute care. Our client is entering an exciting phase with the imminent construction of a brand new state of the art facility.

 

The position reports to Executive Director, Facilities Management, and is responsible for smooth day-to-day operations of department and ensuring optimal functioning of building systems including mechanical, fire/life safety, and environmental. He/she will analyze and solve technical maintenance problems, oversee employees and contractors in maintenance of buildings, grounds and renovation projects. He/she will formulate plans to update systems/reduce operating costs.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Oversee all JCAHO and other regulatory issues.
  • Obtain contractors/suppliers bids, develop budgets, prepare project schedules for renovation and upgrades.
  • Negotiate contracts /ensure compliance.
  • Assure adherence to quality standards.
  • Coach, train and provide feedback to staff..
  • Supervise day-to-day activities: delegate, assign, prioritize, and monitor operating standards.
  • Inspect remodeling and construction work   
  • Maintain control/schedule maintenance of utility systems, electronics, plumbing and physical plant operations.
  • Develop/implement programs to enhance the quality of service delivered
  • Generate reports using CAFM and take appropriate action.
  • Update existing policies/develop new policies. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • BS in Engineering or related discipline; MBA preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, high-pressure steam and HVAC systems. 
  • Knowledge of state, local, federal codes and inspection procedures. 
  • Minimum five years’ experience in engineering management role in Healthcare.
  • Superior written/verbal skills.
  • Exceptional organization/time management skills.
  • Competency with computers, software, PDA’s etc.
  • Knowledge Microsoft Project and Auto-CAD
  • Creative thinker/problem solver.
